Piggy in the Middle was founded in Inverness in 2012 by sisters Carrianne and Donna.

Donna qualified as a primary teacher in 2007 but, after having her own child in 2011, decided to change careers and start a business that enabled her to have more control over her time.

“We both have young children and were constantly on the lookout for affordable clothing and equipment without forgoing quality.  I used online sites to begin with, but disliked having to meet sellers at their own home often feeling under pressure to buy an item, even if it wasn’t quite what I was looking for as I didn’t want to offend anyone. It was the same at markets – I hated rifling through other people’s things and wanted the option of buying quality clothing in a more comfortable and relaxed environment.  This is what Piggy in the Middle provides.”

Carrianne returned to Scotland to start a family in 2009 after spending 8 years in the USA working for Carnegie International.  “Children’s consignment is a very popular and thriving business in the USA and now that I have a child of my own, I can completely understand the desire to provide them with the best items you can at the best price.  Children can be very expensive little people and we wanted to find a solution to a very common everyday problem for parents”.

We are both keen to support the recycling of items that are still in excellent condition and hopefully offer a beneficial service to families in the Highlands.
